The renowned social leader, follower of Gandhian philosophy, practicing of series of satyagraha for the benefits of youths and rural poor, founder of Yuval Kranti Dal, close associate of Lok Nayak Jayprakash Narayan and then MLA, Dr. Kumar Saptarshi is the founder of Indian Institute for Social Development and Research, Pune. He formed a trust with his colleagues from the field of politics, social work, education, art and film.  The institute established its Rural Development Centre at a drought prone village, Khed in Karjat tehsil, Dist. Ahmednagar in 1980. It soon became a laboratory to creatively harness local manpower and natural resources to create wealth. Subabhul plantation for fodder, fuel and firewood, Subabhul nursery, Neem seed collection, Neem oil and cake production, Brick manufacturing, Efficient irrigation system like perfo-rain and sprinkler, dairy, goat cross breeding, etc. were the scientifically designed programmes at the RDC. It was proved beyond doubt that such programmes reach the bottom of pyramid as they generated employment for hundreds of men and women from rural sector without any inputs from outside the region.

            So far as education is concerned the village Khed and other 10-15 villages in the area had the facility of only primary education up to 4^th and 7^th standard. On demand from the local people, especially from girls in the village Dr. Kumar Saptarshi founded the Highschool named after his guru, Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan on 7^th June 1984. In the year 2001 Dr. G. D. Saptarshi Jr. College was established. The arts college, Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi

Mahavidyalay, was also started in the same year. These three academic institutes have been instrumental for empowering youths in the area.

            After achieving good accreditation in the first NAAC cycle, completing 24000 sq. ft college building with 26 acres of land space with wall compound, earning name and fame for both, the mother institute and the college Dr. Kumar Saptarshi entrusted the responsibility as the Managing Trustee and Chairman CDC on me since Dec, 2022. I will try to follow the same legacy with support from my colleagues running the school and the college.

            I appeal to the youths from nearby villages and from distant areas to join the college not only for education but also for overall personality development through our skill development programs like fish farming, organic farming, production of organic manure, etc.
